Mi propio espacio

I'm telling you what....this job is a lot of work!  I said goodbye to my family on Friday and promised myself that I would sit down and tell you all all about their trip and what all we did.  Now 4 days later here we are!  So, about 3 days before my family came for their mission trip to Costa Rica I finally got my own space!!  Although it is not the most luxurious place in the world, it is mine.  I am able to sleep without a foot in my side!!

This is actually Gary, the youth minister's, office.  He and his family have been amazing in helping me get settled here!  His mom, Rossy, took me out to get a dresser the day my family arrived.  She said it was very important that I had my own space and something that belonged to me and it was important that I didn't continue living out of a suitcase.  She wanted me to feel at home, so this is what we found....
Isn't it beautiful!! and all mine!! :)
Lee, Gary, Fallon, Rossy and Marvin also opened their house to our family to come and have dinner the second night the Bethesda crew was here. We had so much fun!!  Marvin is super amazing at cooking pizza, so we made somewhere around 10 or 15 pizzas and got to spend time with them and their family!

YUM!!
Mom, Dad, Logan, Tyler, Jessica, John, Brandon, Katie, Laura and Andy came right in the nick of time!  It was definitely the best week of my entire time here so far!  I know I am a little bias, but I was so proud to call them my family.  They worked so hard, but even more importantly, they built some amazing relationships!  They really opened their hearts to serve each other and the people here.  It really just took my breath away.  Sorry to the rest of my family because I really am super proud of you all, but I really want to brag on Tyler for a second....my cousin Tyler is the most amazing 13 year old in the world!  His heart and passion are unmatched by anyone I know.  He has many special gifts and talents, and I would just ask that you all would pray for God to solidify the calling in His life and that God would continue to mold and strengthen Tyler to accomplish great things for God's kingdom.  This week he not only worked his butt off, but he built relationships like no one else in the group.  He made a grown man cry along with many not so grown girls! :)  Tyler is going to be able to do amazing things to teach people about God's love.  He just needs lots of love, support and Godly influences in his life!

On Wednesday, we took a break and went to the hot springs and on a boat ride.  I have been coming here for 4 years now, and I have NEVER seen the pastor's family, the cooks and their families, and the workers go with a group on their free day, but that is exactly what happened this week.  The group built such strong relationships with the people here that they all came and enjoyed this time with us.  It was like nothing I had ever seen.  It was a beautiful day that I will never forget!

By the way, I finally was forced to get a facebook account by my sister and Chad, a friend that I met from the Alabama group last week, so you can check out more pictures of our free day trip there!
The rest of the week was amazing!  It was great to have a little piece of home as I continue to assimilate to the culture here.  For those of you routing for me to find Mr.Right here I have good news....although I haven't found him Douglas and Yami (my Costa Rican parents) tell me I am now officially ready because I know how to fix a pot of Costa Rican coffee.  Apparently that is all it takes.  I should have come here a long time ago!  This week I think I spent as much time fixing coffee as working.  Here they take 2 or 3 coffee breaks a day, and guess who the official coffee maker is....yours truly.  They really want to get me married off, so they make sure everyone knows I can do it! haha jk...well maybe, but here is proof:

Notice...two different outfits.  I'm telling you....everyday....twice a day.  I even know how everyone in the group likes their coffee.  Well, I did.  Now we have a new group.  I have a 2 or 3 day learning curve!
Another thing that I have been learning here is how to drive!  You wouldn't believe how absolutely different it is driving here opposed to driving in Georgia.  Daniela keeps asking me why I am driving so slow and I'm going like 50 mph.  That might be a bit of an exaggeration, but really it is crazy.  People run red lights and pass buses and jump curbs and turn corners without even slowing down, and there are about 10 pot holes every two blocks.  Plus there are no street names...I'm just sayin...it is a little crazy.  So the other day I really tried to be slick and drive like a Costa Rican.  There was this big truck blocking my way, so I jumped the curb. I was so proud of myself until I got back home and realized I knocked off the front bumper! I guess I'm just not as good as I thought yet!
Oops!  Jonathan thought it was pretty funny though
One more super important thing I have learned is how to sharpen work pencils without a pencil sharpener.  I'm not quite as good as my work partners, but look at this concentration...I will be a pro in no time!

Here are some more pictures of some of the work we did this week.  Our main jobs were setting in the metal frames for the walls, digging up dirt and working on the staircase.  It is coming together for sure!! :)

Thank you Andy, Laura, Katie, Brandon, John, Jessica, Tyler, Logan, Dad and Mom for an amazing week!  I loved it and I love all of you.  You are amazing people and you taught me with your actions what it really means to humbly serve others.  I will continue to keep you all in my prayers, and I hope that you can come back next summer!
This week I am working with Lawrenceville UMC.  We are doing VBS, a women's ministry, and working on the church.  I will post some pictures at the end of the week.  The kids are precious and we are getting lots done at the church.  For those of you that have seen the church before you will be shocked at all the changes this year!  I will also update your on this week's living situation...every week I get a new surprise...sometimes good and sometimes not so good!
